10. Bern, Switzerland

The country’s capital is home to several major Swiss companies including Rolex, Toblerone, Swisscom and The Swatch Group, as well as the foreign offices of American companies, such as eBay, Cisco and Ingram Micro. Bern is popular for its lower taxes, as well as liberal labor laws. To top it off, the city has managed to retain its cultural heritage. Old Bern has been recognized as a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site for being one of Europe’s best examples of a medieval town. The city, which is filled with diverse historical attractions, was home to Albert Einstein from 1903 and 1905, during which he developed his groundbreaking theory of relativity. Human resources consultant ECA International has drawn up its latest list of the world’s most expensive cities for U.S. expatriates. The survey examined 400 cities and regions across the world, and measured a basket of common items purchased by foreign workers in U.S. dollars terms, including food, clothing and electrical goods.

09. Kobe, Japan

Kobe is one of Japan’s busiest container ports. It is also the point of origin and namesake of the world-renowned Kobe beef. While Japan is the only Asian country surveyed where the cost of goods in the ECA basket has fallen, it is the most expensive country for foreign workers in U.S. dollar terms. That’s a largely a result of the appreciation of the yen over the past six months, as well as the already high cost of goods and services.

08. Geneva, Switzerland

Situated along Lake Geneva in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, Geneva is regarded as the global center for diplomacy. It’s home to many United Nations agencies, as well as the World Trade Organization, Red Cross and World Economic Forum headquarters.

One quarter of this picturesque city is made up of public parks, making it a popular destination for U.S. expatriates looking to relocate. Geneva is also well known for its haute cuisine, boasting more restaurants per capita than New York City.

07. Luanda, Angola

The capital of Angola has seen an influx of multinational companies looking to tap the country’s rich energy reserves. The country is also rich in other goods, exporting coffee, diamonds, sugar, iron and salt.

But a three-decade-long civil war has devastated Luanda’s infrastructure, driving up the cost of goods and services. From haircuts to gym memberships to fast-food meals, nothing comes cheap in the city. A one-year gym membership reportedly costs $2,500 and a haircut can cost upwards of $150.

06. Zurich, Switzerland

Despite its low tax rates, Switzerland’s largest city ranks as the fifth most expensive for expatriates. A large reason for this is the rapid appreciation of the Swiss franc, which has strengthened 27 percent against the U.S. dollar in the last year.

The country’s business center is the base for many leading financial institutions, including Credit Suisse, Julius Baer and UBS. In addition to its position as a European financial hub, Zurich is famous for its watch companies and chocolate makers, such as Lindt & Sprüngli.

05. Yokohama, Japan

As Japan’s second-largest city, Yokohama is a major commercial center for the Greater Tokyo Area.

The port city has a strong economic base, particularly in the biotechnology, semiconductor and shipping industries. Carmaker Nissan and Fujitsu semiconductor have moved their headquarters to the city.

Yokohama also is a budding artistic hub. The city is gearing up to host its triennale art event from August to December this year, with artists from around the world exhibiting their works at venues around the city.

04. Stavanger, Norway

The discovery of oil in the North Sea during the 1960s, converted this quaint metropolis into Norway’s petroleum capital. Over 50 energy companies have offices in Stavanger, making the city home to hundreds of expatriates working in the oil and gas sector.

During the recent economic downturn, Norway’s oil wealth meant the government could sustain economic growth with a lavish stimulus program. The country also has one of the world’s most generous welfare systems, including public schools that offer free, high-quality education.

It is the high cost of food and transportation that make Stavanger No. 4 on the list, however. Food prices in Norway are around 50 percent higher than the euro zone average, with meat, sugar and cereal products being the most expensive products.

03. Nagoya, Japan

Known as Japan’s most dynamic region, Nagoya is located 165 miles west of Tokyo. It is the hub for most of Japan’s manufacturers, and produces a large portion of the country’s automobile and aircraft parts.

A number of Japanese automotive companies are headquartered in Nagoya, including Toyota and Honda. Fortunately, these manufacturing plants were largely unaffected by the impact of the March earthquake and tsunami, which struck the region north of Tokyo.

Oslo has been the second most expensive city for expatriates for six years in a row — that’s thanks to the relative strength of the Kroner, which has appreciated 16 percent against the U.S. dollar over the last year, and the resilience of the Norwegian economy during the financial crisis.

This hub of Norwegian trade is the home to the world’s largest shipping companies, shipbrokers and maritime insurance companies.

The city also boasts of one of the world’s most extensive and efficient metro transportation systems, and an environmentally friendly tram system. Efficiency comes at a price, however — a one-way ticket on public transportation costs around $5.60.

Nasal congestion is the blockage of the nasal passages usually due to membranes lining the nose becoming swollen from inflamed blood vessels. It is also known as nasal blockage, stuffy nose. Many people think that a nose gets congested (stuffy) from too much thick mucus. This is incorrect.

Nasal Congestion can be hard to breathe through your nose and you might find it's easier to breathe through your mouth. At night, nasal congestion may make it difficult for you to get to sleep or stay asleep all night and this can be frustrating.

Symptoms of Nasal Congestion:

Symptoms may include difficulty breathing through your nose, a runny nose, and sneezing. Those who suffer from severe nasal congestion can have trouble in sleeping, speaking, and hearing and even experience bothersome snoring.

Common Causes of Nasal Congestion:

Congestion can be caused by many of the same things that cause a runny nose, including:

• Common cold

• Hay fever or other allergies

• Flu

• Overuse of some nasal sprays or drops

• Sinus infection

• Vasomotor rhinitis

Nasal Congestion Remedies:

* Taking 3-4 baked black pepper seeds in the morning, or inhaling fumes by burning them on fire gives fast relief. This is one of the best home remedies for nasal congestion.

* Boil some water in a container and cover your head and face with a towel. Now, bend over the boiling water and inhale the steam for 7 to 10 minutes from your nose and mouth. Do this for 3 to 4 times daily.

* Take two tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a pan and heat until it begins to steam. Inhale the vapor to open the nasal passage.

* Drink some hot broths like vegetable and chicken soups mixed with lots of black pepper, hot chocolate etc.

* Peppermint oil is also an excellent ingredient to decongest the nasal passage. Take two drops of peppermint oil in a cotton ball and then breathe deeply.

* You can also try having 1 or 2 tsp of horseradish sauce to get immediate relief.

* Take bath in warm water to get relief from nasal congestion. Steam bath is also very good.

* Taking a whiff of an onion causes stimulation in the nose that leads to runny results and temporary unblocked congestion.

* Take in plenty of fluids throughout the day. Drink as much of water, tea and fruit juice as much as possible, throughout the day.

* Take a handful of carom seeds and grind into powder. Take the powder in a piece of cotton cloth and tie it. Place this near the pillow.

What is Depression:

Depression is a state of mind which is characterized by a negative sense of inadequacy and a visual lack of activity. It is a mental state in which the effecting person experiences sad feelings of gloom and downturn in mood, which may be relatively transitory and may be due to something complex. The common behavior includes feelings of sadness, despair, low self-esteem, low self-reproach and discouragement.

Depression is a serious medical illness that involves the brain. It's more than just a feeling of being "down in the dumps" or "blue" for a few days. Depressed people may lose interest in activities that once were pleasurable, experience difficulty concentrating, remembering details, or making decisions, and may contemplate or attempt suicide.

Types of Depression:

* Major Depression.

* Chronic Depression (Dysthymia).

* Atypical Depression.

* Postpartum Depression.

* Bipolar Depression (Manic Depression).

* Seasonal Depression (SAD).

* Psychotic Depression.

Cause of Depression:

• Loneliness

• Hormone deficiencies

• Financial strain

• Marital or relationship problems

• Low levels of neurotransmitters

• Genetic basis

• Alcohol or drug abuse

• Family history of depression

• Substance induced mood disorder

• Post partum

• Social factors

• Psychological factors

Depression Symptoms:

If you have depression, you may have a number of different symptoms including:

* A continuous low mood, which may be worse in the mornings.

* Feeling irritable.

* A loss of interest in your social life.

* A loss of self-confidence.

* Tiredness and poor concentration.

* Difficulty in making decisions.

* Feeling guilty.

* Thoughts about death and suicide.

* A loss of sex drive (libido).

* Physical slowness.

Depression Remedies:

* Add rose petals in a glass of boiling water. Add sugar to the drink and have it.

* Another remedy for curing depression is to have an apple with milk and honey.

* Caffeine and alcohol both dampen mood. Alcohol temporarily relaxes us and caffeine boosts energy, but the effects of both are short lived. Both can worsen mood swings, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

* Make a tea and add 1/4-teaspoon basil and 1/2 teaspoon of sage per cup of hot water. Consuming this mixture two times a day would be helpful in relieving a person from depression.

* In 1 cup of rice milk or soy milk, cook 3-4 tablespoons of oatmeal. Add nuts, almonds, dried fruits, maple syrup or honey to it. this would be effective in curing depression.

* Licorice tea also works well for depressed minds. Take 1-3 cups of tea per day to get rid of depression.

* Sweets temporarily make you feel good as blood sugar levels soar, but may worsen mood later on when they plummet.

* Limit your total daily fat intake to 30 percent of your total calories. Try not to consume more than 300 milligrams of cholesterol a day.

* Don't believe all of your negative thinkings.

The World's Most Dangerous Roads

At one time or another, most drivers encounter unsafe road conditions. Hazards can appear in many different forms, for instance, poor weather, drunk drivers, and simple human error can all complicate an otherwise uneventful journey. On the other hand, sometimes the condition of the road itself can put your life in jeopardy.

It is hard to imagine how many dangerous roads there are. When working on this post I studied about few resources to find out that there are over 100 dangerous and scary roads and these are just the most famous we've heard of. There are different factors of danger so it is really hard to say what roads are the most dangerous of all the dangerous roads in the world. But here is our list of most blood-bathing roads and the deadly routes where tonnes of accidents have happened. Do check them out and, more importantly, try to avoid them!

Stelvio Pass Road, Italy

The eastern Alps countryside of Italy are incredibly breathtaking. This zig-zag stretch of road at 1.7 miles above sea level has approximately 48 hairpin bends. It's beautiful to look at from a distance, but wouldn't be easier to fly over the Alps to get to the other side?

Trollstigen, Norway

Trollstigen translated means "Troll's Ladder." Dizzy hairpins, almost impossible to pass another car on this narrow road and then put the danger of falling rocks with steep inclines that leave you with a case of vertigo� why oh why drive here? Tourist are attracted by the beautiful 1000ft waterfall off the side of the mountain. You want to see a waterfall, fly to Hawaii. It's safer and you can get a tan.

Col de Turini, France

Who doesn't want to go to the south of France? About 20 miles on this pass is part of the Monte Carlo Rally with 34 death defying hairpins and long stretches where cars top our at over 100 miles per hour. It's considered one of the greatest driving roads of the world, but not for normal people who embrace safety first.

North Yungas Road, Bolivia

This road is also known as the "Road of Death." It's a single-lane road, so why do these trucks try to pass each other are they nuts? It's a long drop down without guardrails. There's also fog and rain to contend with including mudslides caused by moisture.

Taroko Gorge Road, Taiwan (Chungheng)

A tunnel with no lights off a cliff equals a disaster waiting to happen. Tourist love it because it passes right through a national park. At least there's a cement guard rail system.

Los Caracoles Pass, Andes

A very popular path through the Andreas Mountains between Chile and Argentina. A maze of steep inclines and hairpins without guard rails and the road is covered with snow for the most part of the year. Buy an airline ticket and fly back and forth between the two countries.

Lena Highway, Russia

Known as the "Highway from Hell." This road runs parallel to the river Lena. During the winter it's a breeze to drive through but during the summer month with a deluge of rain, it's a mud pit.

Guoliang Tunnel Road, China

Yes, that's a tunnel road inside a mountain 200 meter long about 5 meters high and 4 meters wide. A beautiful scenic route that's dubbed, "the road that does not tolerate any mistakes." Seriously!

Atlas Mountains Road, Morocco

The Dades Gorge in Morocco is beautiful to look at, but not while you're driving this twisty-turvy road. You could end up being part of the Gorge.

The Way to Fairy Meadows, Pakistan

You know when they tell you not to look down when you're scared of heights, don't look down! No shoulder, no guard rail, no hope.

Grimsel Pass, Switzerland

Over one mile above sea level this sloping path takes you through the Swiss mountains between the valley of the Rhone River and the Haslital valley. Guard rails and night lights but you're on a slope, don't think it's in any way safe.

Socotra Island: you have to see it to believe it

We covered some otherwordly places before (see, for example, Bolivian Salt Lake, or The Richat Structure), but this island simply blows away any notion about what is considered "normal" for a landscape on Earth.

Imagine waking up on the Socotra Island and taking a good look around you (let's say your buddies pulled a prank on you and delivered you there, and lets also assume that you don't have any hangover from abuse of any substances). After a yelp of disbelief, you'd be inclined to think you were transported to another planet - or traveled to another era of Earth's history.

The second would be closer to the truth for this island, which is part of a group of 4 islands, has been geographically isolated from mainland Africa for the last 6 or 7 million years. Like the Galapagos Islands, this island is teeming with 700 extremely rare species of flora and fauna, a full 1/3 of which are endemic, i.e. found nowhere else on Earth.

The climate is harsh, hot and dry, and yet - the most amazing plant life thrives there. Situated in the Indian Ocean 250 km from Somalia and 340 km from Yemen, the wide sandy beaches rise to limestone plateaus full of caves (some 7 kilometers in length) and mountains up to 1525 meters high.

The name Socotra is derived from a Sanscrit name, meaning "The Island of Bliss"... Is it the beaches? The isolation and quiet? or the strange and crazy botanical allure?

Alien-looking plants: H. P. Lovecraft's secret inspiration?

Was the famous Chtulhu myths creator aware of these forbidding mountains with their hauntingly weird flora (think of plant mutations from his "The Color out of Space") ? We almost tempted to call Socotra the other "Mountains of Madness" - the trees and plants of this island were preserved thru the long geological isolation, some varieties being 20 million years old...

We begin with the dracena cinnibaris or Dragon's Blood Tree, the source of valuable resin for varnishes, dyes, and "cure-all" medicine; also (predictably) used in medieval ritual magic and alchemy -

The branches spread out into the sky and from below appear to hover over the landscape like so many flying saucers... and from above they have a distinct mushroom look:

There is also the Desert Rose (adenium obesium) which looks like nothing so much as a blooming elephant leg:

Dorstenia gigas - apparently does not require any soil and sinks roots straight into the bare rock:

Somewhat similar to the weird Dorstenia gigas, is this "bucha" vegetable, found as far north as Croatia. I hope it's not pregnant with anything malignant inside this sack. John Wyndham (with his "The Day of the Triffids") would've loved it:

Also found in Socotra's landscape is the ever-strange and extremely rare Cucumber Tree (dendrosicyos socotranum) - and yes, it's related to what's sitting in a pickle jar in your fridge:

Getting around can be a challenge, as there are almost no roads

Despite the fact that this island has around 40,000 inhabitants, the Yemeni govenment put in the first roads just 2 years ago - after negotiations with UNESCO, which has declared this island a World Natural Heritage Site. I would prefer a camel ride to what is bound to be a bumpy and slow 4x4 ride... It is a quiet and peaceful enclave in an otherwise troubled world. If you decide to visit there, you can forget about beachfront hotels and restaurants; this island is geared towards eco-tourism and sustaining the local economy and way of life.

This island is a birder's paradise as well, with 140 different species of birds; 10 of which are not found anywhere else in the world. A unique Socotra warbler, sunbird, starling, bunting, sparrow and cisticola are among the ones found here. There are also Socotra Cormorants:

The Organs of your body have their sensory touches at the bottom of your foot, if you massage these points you will find relief from aches and pains as you can see the heart is on the left foot.

Typically they are shown as points and arrows to show which organ it connects to.

It is indeed correct since the nerves connected to these organs terminate here.

DRINK WATER IN EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value.. It's long but very informative

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.

Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

A huge outback dust storm - 500 km (310 mi) wide by 1,000 km (620 mi) long - swept across eastern Australia and blanketed Sydney on Wednesday, September 23rd, disrupting flights and ground transportation and forcing people indoors for shelter from the hazardous air, gale-force winds, and in some places hailstorms. Those few who ventured outside, especially at dawn, were greeted by a Martian sky, familiar landmarks blotted out by the heavy red dust blowing by. Landslides in Brazil

In the month of January 2011, a series of flash floods and mudslides struck the Serrana mountain region near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, destroying buildings roads and more. Nearly 14,000 people are now homeless, 759 are reported to have been killed and another 400 remain missing in this, Brazil's worst-ever natural disaster. As soldiers make their way to remote towns with aid and transportation, Brazil's government has said it would accelerate efforts to build up a nationwide disaster-prevention and early-warning system. Carnivorous plants are plants that derive some or most of their nutrients (but not energy) from trapping and consuming animals or protozoans, typically insects and other arthropods. Carnivorous plants appear adapted to grow in places where the soil is thin or poor in nutrients, especially nitrogen, such as acidic bogs and rock outcroppings. Charles Darwin wrote Insectivorous Plants, the first well-known treatise on carnivorous plants, in 1875.

True carnivore is thought to have evolved independently six times in five different orders of flowering plants, and these are now represented by more than a dozen genera. These include about 630 species that attract and trap prey, produce digestive enzymes, and absorb the resulting available nutrients. Additionally, over 300 protocarnivorous plant species in several genera show some but not all these characteristics.

Five basic trapping mechanisms are found in carnivorous plants.

1.Pitfall traps (pitcher plants) trap prey in a rolled leaf that contains a pool of digestive enzymes or bacteria.
2.Flypaper traps use a sticky mucilage.
3.Snap traps utilize rapid leaf movements.
4.Bladder traps suck in prey with a bladder that generates an internal vacuum.
5.Lobster-pot traps force prey to move towards a digestive organ with inward-pointing hairs.

These traps may be active or passive, depending on whether movement aids the capture of prey. For example, Triphyophyllum is a passive flypaper that secretes mucilage, but whose leaves do not grow or move in response to prey capture.
